The Rudbeck laboratory
- from basic research to clinical applications

Here 300 people work in the best-equipped facility of its kind in the Nordic region. By bringing basic and clinic researchers together under one roof, in custom designed premises with state-of-the-art equipment, findings in basic research can get effect in the everyday treatment of patients as rapidly as possible.

The Rudbeck Laboratory houses research groups in genetics, pathology, tumour biology, oncology, radiation science and immunology. The so-called GIN laboratory is a unique facility for the development and production of clinical substances for gene-, immuno-, and nuclide (GIN) therapy.

The recent advances in genetic research are expected to become of great importance especially in the treatment of cancer. Today we know that the solution to "the mystery of cancer" is to be found in our genetic programmes. At the Rudbeck Laboratory the battle against cancer is waged on all fronts, from the laboratory to the patient's bed.

Another important research area is medical genetics. At the Rudbeck Laboratory hereditary and other diseases caused by changes in the genetic make-up are studied. The scientists are among other things looking for genes that cause obesity, autoimmune and neuropsychiatric diseases - work that might lead to new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases in the future.
