Uppsala Clinical Research Center
Uppsala Clinical Research Center, UCR, was founded on 1 July 2001. The center is an independent unit connected to both the disciplinary domain for medicine and pharmacy at Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital. UCR is engaged in projects under the leadership of and in collaboration with clinical investigators at Uppsala University and at other universities and hospitals in Sweden and the world.
The main objective of UCR is to improve healthcare through support for clinical research and quality development. Currently UCR has some 40 employees, who are organised in groups that are focused on clinical research, clinical trials, quality registers, statistics, data management, information technology and biomedical analysis. UCR provides a full spectrum of services from revision and support in specific areas to complete solutions for multi-center projects in clinical research and trials. In the field of registers UCR has developed a unique interactive Internet based technology for continuous registration and reporting, providing specialist competence and complete solutions for all types of databases and local, national and international registers.
UCR has recently moved to new offices at Dag Hammarskjölds väg 50A, in Uppsala Science Park, which is a creative environment with several bio-technical companies and closeness to both Uppsala University Hospital and the Biomedical Center for medical and pharmaceutical education and research.
In January 2005 UCR will open a clinic for research patients and healthy volunteers. The UCR-clinic will implement clinical trials of pharmaceuticals and foods in open health care and it will handle phase I, II and III trials on patients who only makes polyclinical visits in the study. The clinic will also be rented out to research groups who wish to see healthy volunteers or patients in clinical trials.
