Urology

Urology is the study of the urinary tract and male genitals. The urology department and resident urologists deal with diseases of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, urethra, penis and testes. Urology is a surgical specialty but many urologic diseases can be treated without surgery. All urologic care for the inhabitants of Uppsala county is covered by the urology departments at the University Hospital and the hospital in Enköping. In addition, the department offers highly specialized urologic treatment of patients from across the country, including in the areas of prostate cancer, bladder cancer and kidney cancer. Much of the research done by the department focuses on cancer.
